According to Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," the prosecution has requested the postponement of the court hearing scheduled for tomorrow in his case.
"The court called my lawyer, Giorgi Kondakhishvili, and informed him of an interesting development: two female prosecutors submitted a written request to the court stating that they will be attending a training session all day tomorrow, will not be in Tbilisi, and thus cannot attend the court hearing. They asked the court to consider their absence as excusable," Melia stated.
He also said that he will not attend tomorrow’s hearing either.
"As you already know, I have refused to participate in tomorrow’s court hearing for well-known reasons. I said I would await the verdict elsewhere. As of now, the prosecutors will not attend tomorrow’s court hearing, and neither will the accused. That’s the situation," Melia noted.
For reference, Nika Melia was summoned to provide explanations to a temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament, which he did not attend, after which he was charged.
By the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, a bail of 50,000 GEL was imposed as a preventive measure, but Melia refused to pay the bail.
Nika Melia was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to "failure to comply with the demands of a temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament."
This offense is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to one year, along with the deprivation of the right to hold office or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
