The Tbilisi City Court has shared the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office and found Aleksandre Mukhadze (nicknamed “Killera”), the former director of the 8th institution of the Penitentiary Department, guilty of torturing a prisoner.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Aleksandre Mukhadze was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
“The evidence examined during the trial confirmed that in May 2011, in the 8th Penitentiary Department, Megis Kardava and Aleksandre Mukhadze demanded that a person detained for the purchase and storage of narcotics confess to non-existent terrorist acts and testify against other persons allegedly involved in these criminal activities. Otherwise, they threatened to rape him. Also, according to the testimonies in the case, the person was given narcotics to create a basis for the arrest.
After refusing to give the desired testimony, the victim was made watch sexual abuse of one of the prisoners and threatened that if he did not give the desired confession, he would be raped. Aleksandre Mukhadze also repeatedly physically assaulted the prisoner.
After being pressured physically and psychologically, the victim, at the behest of Megis Kardava, wrote a confession of her participation in non-existent terrorist acts. The testimony did not seem comprehensive enough to Aleksandre Mukhadze and Megis Kardava, which is why they forced the prisoner to eat the testimony she had written. Then, a sexual assault was staged, which was filmed on camera.
Fearing that footage of sexual violence would be released and that physical abuse would continue, the victim was forced to sign a confession.
Due to numerous acts of torture committed by Aleksandre Mukhadze, Megis Kardava and other employees of the institution, the victim attempted suicide.
The Tbilisi City Court found Aleksandre Mukhadze guilty of the act of group torture of the prisoner and sentenced him to 9 years of prison,” reads the information.
