During the trial of Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” in Tbilisi City Court, Nika Melia splashed water on Judge Irakli Shvangiradze.
This happened when Nika Melia was addressing the judge with the following words, saying that “he is carrying out an order and that, as a judge, he was not interested in why he was illegally arrested yesterday.”
“You are an accomplice. One link in the defense chain. Whether you are insignificant, less significant, or the opposite – nobody knows. But it’s a fact that you are part of this criminal chain and you don’t even ask how I ended up here, who kidnapped me, why they kidnapped me, and why they damaged the video-recording devices installed in my car.
What’s more, you are temporarily appointed to the judge’s position on a probationary period. We all know this. For the next three years, Chincharadze and Murusidze will watch you; you will obey them and make decisions accordingly,” Melia told the judge.
After Melia splashed water on the judge, he was expelled from the courtroom. Simultaneously, a scuffle occurred between attendees and court marshals, prompting the judge to announce a break.
Attorney Giorgi Kondakhashvili told journalists that Nika Melia lost his composure during the trial and therefore splashed water on the judge. “He lost his composure, and the gesture he made was a decision he took in that moment,” Kondakhashvili said.
