I am deeply concerned about the ongoing repressions in Georgia linked to the arrest of Nika Melia, a leader of the “Coalition for Change”,” wrote Romanian MEP and Vice-President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Dan Barna, on the social media platform X.

According to him, they condemn the actions of the Georgian government, which undermine democratic values and the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Georgian people.

“This is a pattern of intimidating opposition voices. We condemn these actions by the Georgian government, which undermine democratic values and the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Georgian people. We stand with the brave Georgian people who are resisting the drift away from democracy and the growing Russian influence,” the MEP wrote.
