According to the students of Ilia State University, starting Monday at 12:00, lecturers and students will go on strike.
The students call on students and lecturers from other universities to join their protest in a show of solidarity.
Activists also joined the students’ action, marching from the Public Broadcaster.
Later, the participants of the action will march toward Rustaveli Avenue and join the ongoing protest in front of the Parliament.
The students gathered at the “A” building of Ilia State University express solidarity with civic activists Tatia Afriamashvili and Lika Lortkipanidze, who were sentenced to 12 days of detention in the case of insulting “Georgian Dream” MP Mariam Lashkhi.
For information, the case concerns an incident that occurred on May 17, when activists Tatia Afriamashvili and Magda Mamukashvili approached MP Mariam Lashkhi in a café and shouted slogans: “Freedom to the regime’s captives” and “Down with the Russian regime.”
Mariam Lashkhi, who was with her children at the time of the incident, took the activists to court.
