Nika Melia is a detained man and I don't want to say much about a detained person - his behavior and actions are inadequate, he is a representative of a radical group that is controlled from the outside, - the Secretary General of the Georgian Dream and the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, told journalists, thus responding to the arrest of one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia, and the incident that occurred during his trial.

According to him, splashing water on a judge and similar actions are "categorically unacceptable".

"Nika Melia is a detained man and I don't want to say much about a detained person. His behavior and actions are, of course, inadequate. He is a representative of a radical group that is controlled from the outside. When you are summoned to parliament and you don't appear, of course, the reaction prescribed by law will follow. Accordingly, all those people who did not appear at the said commission will in all cases be subject to the relevant measure.

Such actions [splashing water on a judge] are categorically unacceptable. We have seen many facts, for example, hitting a deputy, insulting a deputy. This is often followed by a very positive response from specific television stations. They cheer for all this. I will not list these specific television stations. This is categorically unacceptable. I have said many times and I will repeat it once again that these types of actions - violence, calls for violence, this is categorically unacceptable and will lead to very serious consequences. Accordingly, regardless of political views and attitudes, I think we should all unite. We will face serious consequences, because violence always leads to violence," Kaladze said.

When asked by a journalist what explains the large number of police officers involved in the arrest of Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Kaladze noted that they were mobilized "due to violence and disobedience."

“They had to call the police because of that violence and disobedience. We know that there was resistance, disobedience, and because of this, Nika Melia was arrested.

I really cannot interfere in the competence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or in the planning of a specific operation, how many police officers are needed during such problems. This is not my competence and I should not interfere. They know better than me how to act. We have professional personnel in the police and they know very well how to act and what is necessary during such problems,” Kaladze noted.

According to Kaladze, “the status of a politician does not mean that someone does not have the right to at least call you and ask you questions.”

"The status of a politician cannot be the protector and shield of all this. On the contrary, we politicians have a greater responsibility to the people. When you take a step that you know is punishable by law, then you must be prepared that the state will respond appropriately to all this," Kaladze said.
