Davit Matikashvili: The law is being enforced – now everyone should do their part and, when they claim that a certain institution is illegitimate or that someone is a political prisoner, they should back up those claims with proof

"The law is being enforced, and we are in the stage of its enforcement – now everyone should do their part, and when they claim that a certain institution is illegitimate or that someone is a political prisoner, they must back it up with proof," – stated Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules.

According to him, if the media claims that Parliament is illegitimate, they must be willing to prove it.

"The law is being enforced, and we are in the enforcement phase. The law has come into force, and therefore, anyone who believes that a specific violation has been committed in the media under this law has the right to address the relevant authority with an appropriate complaint.

As for certain statements, all of it stems from a desire to destroy the country – a desire held by specific media outlets. Are they really media outlets? They are propaganda tools and party mouthpieces that do not express the will or thoughts of the Georgian people or our society. Instead, they promote extremism in our country and support forces that, unfortunately, act from abroad to destabilize Georgia.

Therefore, everyone must now do their part – if you claim that an institution is illegitimate or that someone is a political prisoner, prove it. We must get used to a very simple concept: facts exist. If you say that Parliament is illegitimate, then prove it. If you can’t, then take responsibility for your words. That’s why more responsibility is required. This law imposes greater responsibility on everyone, including the media, to ensure that the statements they make are responsible, verifiable, and not just empty words invented in the mind of some extremist patron who dreams of the country's destruction – with no basis or evidence whatsoever," said Matikashvili.

For reference: According to "TV Pirveli", "Formula", and "Mtavari Arkhi", "Georgian Dream" has filed a complaint with the Communications Commission. "Formula" reports that a "Georgian Dream" representative accuses them of violating specific norms of the broadcasting law. Specifically, the disputed terms include: “illegitimate parliament,” “so-called parliamentary speaker,” “oligarch’s MP,” “regime’s city court,” “clan-serving judge,” and so on.
