The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged one individual with the illegal purchase, possession, and unlawful importation of a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances into Georgia. This information was released by the agency’s press service.
According to the statement, based on the Prosecutor’s motion, the court has already imposed pre-trial detention as a preventive measure against the accused.
“An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed that the defendant illegally purchased, possessed, and imported into Georgia a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances — 1,154 grams of buprenorphine and 44 grams of methadone (in salt form), totaling 1,245 tablets.
The detainee has been charged under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph 'a' and Article 262, Part 4, Subparagraph 'a' of the Criminal Code (illegal purchase, possession, and importation of a particularly large quantity of narcotic substances), which is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
Based on the Prosecutor’s motion, the Khelvachauri District Court has already imposed pre-trial detention as a preventive measure against the defendant.
The criminal investigation is ongoing,” the statement reads.
