Sergey Lavrov to so-called Foreign Minister of occupied Abkhazia: Our countries are allies with a centuries-old history, now we are creating a common security and defense space

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wished Oleg Bartsits, the so-called Foreign Minister of occupied Abkhazia, success in his new “position” at a meeting in Moscow.

“This is your first visit to Russia in your new capacity, after your appointment in April. In addition to my written congratulations, let me take this opportunity to personally wish you success in your new endeavor for the benefit of the Republic of Abkhazia,” Lavrov said.

According to him, Bartsits contributed to the growth of trade turnover between Russia and Abkhazia during his time as Abkhazian trade representative in Moscow.

According to Lavrov, Abkhazia and Russia are allies with a centuries-old history.

"Our countries are allies with a centuries-old history, we are now creating a common security and defense space in accordance with the decisions of our presidents, and, of course, we are harmonizing the socio-economic legislation of Abkhazia with Russian legislation in order to use the available resources most effectively to promote the development of the republic and achieve results that will be visible in the pension, medical, educational and other spheres," Lavrov noted.
