Employees of the Migration Department and the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of joint and complex operations, have detained a total of 6 citizens of Turkey, Iran, India, Iraq, and Egypt, according to information released by the MIA.
It was established that the detained individuals were residing in Georgia without legal grounds, in violation of the Georgian law “On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.” They had been abusing the timeframes provided by the asylum procedure and had remained in the country for years without legal status.
“The detainees failed to make use of the deadlines specified in the expulsion decision, which involve voluntarily leaving the country. As a result, the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made the decision to detain these individuals.
To enforce this decision, the detainees are currently placed in the Temporary Accommodation Center of the Migration Department, with the purpose of their subsequent return to their countries of origin,” the statement reads.
