"We are concerned about the Georgian government’s decision to close the NATO and EU Information Center. This will be a significant loss," — stated a NATO official in response to a question from Euroscope editor Tamar Nutsubidze regarding how the North Atlantic Alliance views the closure of the NATO and EU Information Center in Georgia.
According to NATO, the center played a key role in raising public awareness about NATO and its mutually beneficial partnership with Georgia:
“We are concerned about the Georgian government’s decision to close the NATO and EU Information Center. This will be a significant loss, especially at a time when the Georgian people need more factual information about the Alliance and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Since its establishment in 2005, including its network of regional and local offices, the center has played a key role in enhancing public awareness about NATO and its mutually beneficial partnership with Georgia. The center is a valuable partner for NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division and NATO’s Liaison Office in implementing public diplomacy initiatives across the country’s regions.
The Georgian people have clearly expressed their desire for a democratic and prosperous future within the European and Euro-Atlantic family. This strategic goal is also enshrined in Georgia’s Constitution,” the statement reads.
For context: A few days ago, it was announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is abolishing the NATO and EU Information Center. Termination letters have already been sent to employees. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the NATO and EU Information Center is being transferred under the central administration of the ministry.
