The Bishop of Marneuli and Hujabi, who yesterday spoke from the pulpit about an alleged plot to assassinate him, says he does not intend to cooperate with the Prosecutor’s Office or the police.

As he told TV Pirveli, he does not plan to give testimony.

Additionally, Bishop Giorgi Jamdeliani stated that the nun who, according to him, had been recruited by those who ordered his assassination is no longer in the diocese.

“The Prosecutor’s Office contacted me, but I am exercising my constitutional right as a clergyman. At this stage, I do not intend to testify or cooperate with either the Prosecutor’s Office or the police. I am refusing and acting within the norms of ecclesiastical canon law. As for the nun, she is no longer with me,” – said Bishop Giorgi Jamdeliani.

For context: Bishop Giorgi Jamdeliani of Marneuli and Hujabi claims that a current government official was preparing to assassinate him. During a sermon, he alleged that a representative of the security services had recruited a nun from the diocese to assist in the plot. Following the bishop’s explosive statement, the Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation. According to officials, the investigation is being conducted under Article 18-108 of the Criminal Code, which refers to the preparation of intentional murder.
