Peter Fischer at a meeting with the Anti-Corruption Bureau: As a friend, I warned about illusions regarding Georgia’s integration into the EU

According to Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, a meeting at the Anti-Corruption Bureau discussed the FARA law, Georgia’s EU integration process, and other issues.

“They promised to provide information on how the 13 German organizations in Georgia—funded by the German federal budget, subject to bilateral Germany-Georgia agreements, and essential for the practical implementation of our broad and deep ties—will be treated under FARA. We want them to be exempted from this,” the ambassador wrote on the social platform X.

He added that they discussed the EU, the Venice Commission’s opinion on “foreign agent” type laws, and other matters.

“We also discussed the EU. I recalled the negative opinion of the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission regarding ‘foreign agent’ type laws. As a friend, I warned about illusions concerning Georgia’s integration into the EU. The EU Council concluded with regret in June 2024 that Georgia is far off course,” the ambassador wrote.
