The function of the Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training and Research Institute LEPL, which is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be carried out by the Human Resources Management Department, a structural unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

One of the requirements for appointing a person to a consular position - to have completed a special training program organized by the Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training and Research Institute and to have received a relevant certificate - will be replaced by the obligation to complete a special training program approved by the Minister's order and receive a certificate.

In this regard, the Government has submitted amendments to the Law on Consular Activities to the Parliament for consideration, according to which the LEPL - Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training and Research Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been removed from the law.

The Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training and Research Institute was implementing the special training program approved by the Minister's order and issuing the corresponding certificate. After the change, this function will be performed by one of the structural units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - the Human Resources Management Department.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains, the necessity of the changes is due to the need for effective governance and resource optimization.

“The need to develop the mentioned change is related to the ongoing structural reform process at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after the completion of which the institutional arrangement of the Ministry will be changed and a new structure of the Ministry will be adopted. The organization of the special training program and the issuance of the corresponding certificate will be ensured by the structural unit of the Ministry - the Human Resources Management Department,” the explanatory note to the draft law states.
