“I’ll tell you directly, there was very little discussion about local elections at the meetings; everyone understands that these elections cannot serve as a mechanism to resolve the crisis,” said Giorgi Vashadze, leader of “Strategy Aghmashenebeli,” who is currently on a visit to Brussels.
As he stated on the “PalitraNews” program “360 Degrees,” what is planned for October 4 is not an election.
“What needs to be held in Georgia is nationwide parliamentary elections, through which Georgian citizens will decide who they entrust with the country’s development path. But this must happen in a free and normal environment, not like last year with all the manipulations. I’ll tell you directly, the local elections are not getting much attention in Brussels because everyone understands that they won’t determine Georgia’s European integration fate,” Giorgi Vashadze stated.
According to Vashadze, EU Commission representatives are working to formulate a new policy regarding the reality in Georgia.
“For the EU, it is very clear that the only way to resolve the crisis is to hold new parliamentary elections under normal conditions and rules.
I can tell you unequivocally that EU Commission representatives, whether from the foreign affairs direction, Ms. von der Leyen’s office, or the enlargement direction, are all thinking and working to formulate a new policy regarding the reality in Georgia. I cannot say exactly what this policy will be. The risks for Georgia are very high; today, the integration process is nonexistent. I want to tell the public that ‘Georgian Dream’ is causing us to lose the EU. Not only will we fail to become an EU member, but we will also lose what we already have. Whether it’s the Association Agreement or any evaluation document, we are getting failing grades—twos or zeros—everywhere,” Giorgi Vashadze declared.
