The hearing related to Nika Gvaramia’s case, in which the Prosecutor’s Office is expected to request a strict preventive measure – pre-trial detention – will be held today

The court hearing regarding the case of Nika Gvaramia, leader of the "Coalition for Change," will take place today at Tbilisi City Court.

The session is scheduled for 11:00 AM. According to the Coalition’s press office, Gvaramia himself does not plan to attend the hearing, though his whereabouts have not been specified.

At today’s hearing, the prosecution is expected to file a motion to replace the current preventive measure – a bail of 30,000 GEL – with pre-trial detention, as the accused politician failed to pay the bail within the legally defined timeframe.

For context, Nika Gvaramia was summoned to appear before the Georgian Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission to provide an explanation, but he did not appear. As a result, he has been charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to “Failure to comply with a request from the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission.” This offense is punishable by a fine, up to one year of imprisonment, or deprivation of the right to hold office or engage in professional activity for up to three years.

Nika Gvaramia had been assigned a bail of 30,000 GEL as a preventive measure. He was given a 50-day deadline to pay it, which expired on June 7.
