"Nika Gvaramia himself was ready for this unjust imprisonment, but in such times, the ones who can never be truly prepared are family members—especially the children. This anti-European and anti-national regime must be overthrown! Freedom for Nika! Freedom for all political prisoners! In the end, we will win!" – said Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement, in response to the arrest of Nika Gvaramia, leader of the "Coalition for Change."
According to Bokuchava, any kind of deal with the ruling party—including participation in the upcoming local self-government elections—will lead to Georgia’s complete Russification.
"This regime is not only stripped of European and civilizational values such as human rights, the rule of law, and an independent judiciary—it is also utterly disgraceful, lacking empathy, godless, and cruel. Russian cynicism and brutality will never become Georgian and will never define Georgia. As Nika said in his final statement, this anti-European and anti-national regime must be brought down.
Let me repeat: any hypocrisy, any participation in the so-called local self-government elections, or any other kind of arrangement with this regime, is a road to total Russification. Only through resilience, truth, and unity can we defeat this regime. I’m glad that most democratic forces have once again started talking about the necessity of unity. That is the only path to save our statehood.
Freedom for Nika! Solidarity to his family, especially to Sopho, his children, and every member of his team—we stand with you. Freedom to all political prisoners! ‘In the end, we will win,’ as Zurab Japaridze said.
I also want to respond to the arrest of Mate Dvalidze—he truly is an example of light and truth for each of us. Through his truth, openness, and light, he showed society once again that in the end, we will win. Freedom to all political prisoners! Glory to Georgia!”
