Citizen detained for verbally insulting MP Davit Matikashvili

The Tbilisi City Court has declared citizen Aleksandre Samkharadze as an administrative offender for verbally insulting Davit Matikashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority. He was detained by law enforcement officers this morning near his home.

As Samkharadze’s brother told InterpressNews, he was not arrested by the police, but “kidnapped.”

The court imposed a 14-day administrative detention on Samkharadze as an administrative penalty. He was transferred to the Zahesi temporary detention center.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirms the citizen’s detention and explains the reasons.

"On June 13 of this year, the Tbilisi City Court imposed administrative detention on Aleksandre Samkharadze as an administrative penalty.

Alexandre Samkharadze avoided appearing in court. Accordingly, in order to enforce the court's decision, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained him.

Alexandre Samkharadze has been transferred to a temporary detention center for the purpose of enforcing administrative detention," the MIA statement said.
