The establishment of a checkpoint in Chorchana was a prerequisite for the Russian occupation line moving closer - judging by the results, the situation that was created at this specific section was extremely difficult, and of course the questions raised against the leader of that period are legitimate, necessary and urgent, - the First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Gia Volski, told journalists, responding to the issue of Giorgi Gakharia being summoned to the parliamentary investigation commission once again.
“In addition, there is another serious result that we have received in the direction of Akhalgori, and if there was any possibility for people to move towards Akhalgori, this direction has been completely blocked. In other words, judging by the results, the situation created at this specific section of occupation is extremely difficult, and of course the questions raised against the leader of that period are legitimate, necessary and urgent,” Volski said.
When asked whether he expects Giorgi Gakharia to appear before the temporary parliamentary investigation commission again, Volski noted that he expects it.
“I have expectations, because Gakharia is determined to remain in the political field as a political party with full resources. There are questions regarding which there is a certain position, which is in his own interest to convey to his voters. Coming to the commission, in his opinion, as in the first case, is precisely this opportunity to somehow prove that his personal decisions, neither in this case, nor in the case of Basiani, nor in the case of Pankisi, during the period of conducting a completely stupid operation, were not conditioned by any specific external instructions, but were an inevitable necessity. It is very difficult to answer these questions, but I think he will try - I do not know how successful he will be, because the result in all cases was very heavy, which still weighs heavily on us today, as a legacy,” Volsky said.
When asked by a journalist whether Giorgi Gakharia would go to prison, Gia Volski replied that he wants neither Gakharia to go to prison nor anyone else, but he also doesn’t want specific people to commit crimes in Georgia without being held accountable for them.
“I don’t know, I’m neither a judge nor a prosecutor. I don’t want anyone to go to prison – neither Gakharia nor any other person, but I also don’t want specific people to commit crimes in Georgia without being held accountable for them. So, I can’t fulfill the function of a court while talking to you from this rostrum,” Volski said.
For information, the leader of Gakharia for Georgia, former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, has been summoned to the temporary investigative commission of parliament for the second time.
As the chairwoman of the temporary investigative commission, Tea Tsulukiani, explained, he was summoned to the session regarding the Chorchana issue to answer additional questions.
