The National Security Council may be abolished as of September 1, 2025. The government has submitted a corresponding legislative proposal to the Parliament.

According to the press service of the Government Administration, as reported to “Interpressnews,” following the council’s liquidation, its powers will be exercised by the Government of Georgia.

“The government has submitted a legislative proposal to the Parliament regarding the liquidation of the National Security Council. According to the proposed changes, the National Security Council will be abolished as of September 1, 2025, and its powers will be exercised by the Government of Georgia, in line with the parliamentary governance model.

If the Parliament approves, the relevant amendments will be made to the Law of Georgia ‘On the Planning and Coordination of National Security Policy.’ Under the amendments, a liquidation commission will be established to oversee the dissolution of the National Security Council’s administration. The composition, procedures, and powers of this commission will be determined by the Government of Georgia.

The liquidation commission will transfer the assets of the National Security Council’s administration, including the authority to ensure the functioning of the National Situational Room, to the relevant agencies,” the Government Administration stated.
