"Nothing is being abolished; the functions will simply be redistributed among governmental structures that are specifically responsible for this area," – stated Georgian Dream MP Levan Machavariani in response to reports that the government has submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament regarding the dissolution of the National Security Council.

According to him, this is a very ordinary and normal precedent, as Security Councils in parliamentary republics typically do not exist as separate entities.

"As for the security and safety of our country, we are observing how well our state and the relevant agencies are performing. Over the years, we have managed to avoid four or five revolutions. We are also among the leading countries in the fight against terrorism, which was highlighted in the assessment of one of the major U.S. agencies.

Regarding the dissolution of the Security Council – nothing is being abolished; the functions are simply being redistributed among the government structures that are directly responsible for this field. This is a very usual and normal precedent, as such separately functioning Security Councils generally do not exist in parliamentary republics. This is more common in presidential systems, and the decision was made based on this logic," – said Machavariani.

For reference: The National Security Council may be abolished starting September 1, 2025. The government has submitted a corresponding legislative proposal to Parliament.

According to the government's press office, after the dissolution of the council, its responsibilities will be carried out by the Government of Georgia.
