At the Prosecutorial Council meeting, council member and prosecutor Shota Tkeshelashvili nominated Giorgi Gvarakidze, the First Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia, as a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General.
This information was released by the press office of the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the statement, on June 18, the Prosecutorial Council will hold an interview with Giorgi Gvarakidze, the candidate for Prosecutor General, after which the council members will vote on the nomination.
“Giorgi Gvarakidze began working at the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia in 2003 as a trainee prosecutor and has held various positions over the years. He has served as Chief Investigator of the Investigative Division of the Western Georgia District Prosecutor’s Office, Deputy District Prosecutor of Western Georgia and Head of its Investigative Division; Head of the Investigative Division of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Prosecutor’s Office; Deputy Prosecutor of Kutaisi District; Prosecutor of Tbilisi, among other roles.
He also held the positions of Deputy Head of the Department of Special Investigations and Deputy Head of the Investigative Department at the Special Investigation Service.
On June 18, the Prosecutorial Council will conduct an interview with Giorgi Gvarakidze, after which members of the Council will vote on the nominated candidate.
The process of nominating a candidate for Prosecutor General to the Parliament of Georgia began on June 13.
According to the amendments made to the Organic Law of Georgia 'On the Prosecutor’s Office,' each member of the Prosecutorial Council is authorized to nominate one candidate for the position of Prosecutor General. A candidate will be considered supported by the Prosecutorial Council if they receive a majority vote from the full composition of the council.
The Prosecutorial Council will then submit the supported candidate to the Parliament of Georgia with a corresponding justification,” the statement reads.
