Giorgi Vashadze: I’m ready for imprisonment – if we’re not in prison, let’s sit down and talk. In Mamuka Khazaradze’s statement, I saw something that hadn’t been said before: a unified list and number – that’s a very big deal

One of the leaders of Strategy Aghmashenebeli, Giorgi Vashadze, has stated that he is ready for imprisonment.

He made this comment while speaking about the court hearing scheduled for tomorrow regarding his failure to appear before the parliamentary temporary investigative commission.

As he said on Palitra News’s program Political Space, the arrest of political opponents indicates the government’s weakness.

According to him, Georgian Dream needs a fragmented pro-Western front to prevent the formation of a real alternative.

“I am ready for imprisonment. Let’s see what decision they make, and then we’ll assess it.

We must not follow their timetable; we must live according to our own agenda. As for imprisonment, we are ready for all of this and will fight to the end. In general, when a government needs to arrest political opponents, it is a sign of weakness.

Georgian Dream wants us to remain divided. Their main objective is to prevent unity on the pro-Western flank, because unity means forming a real alternative,” Vashadze said.

Vashadze also commented on the statement made by Lelo – For Strong Georgia leader Mamuka Khazaradze, in which Khazaradze said: “We are ready for all compromises to create a unified platform, if necessary with a new number, a joint list, and a strong united candidate.”

According to Vashadze, this is the first time the idea of a unified list and common number has been publicly voiced, which he considers an important development.

He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and coordination without public confrontations.

"As for Mamuka Khazaradze’s statement – it contains a significant development. I support a unified list, unity... I see there’s an effort to reach a common decision. I think we should sit down and make a unified decision, without unnecessary public comments.

The current environment is not an election environment. Not only is it not the same as it was in 2024 – it’s actually worse: political prisoners are in jail, political opponents are either imprisoned or under criminal investigation, local and international observers will be absent, the electoral system has been changed, and the CEC is still run by a sanctioned individual…”

Vashadze believes it is important for the opposition spectrum to gather in the coming days and make a joint decision:

“I believe it’s crucial that by the end of this week or the beginning of next week, if we’re not in prison, we sit down and talk. Let’s put aside the grudges we may have. In Mamuka’s statement, I saw something that hadn’t been said before – a unified list and number. That’s a very big deal. Had we run with a joint list and number in the previous elections, we’d be facing a different reality today,” Vashadze said.
