On June 23, the European Union’s foreign ministers will discuss the ongoing developments in Georgia, – EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczyński told journalists.
“On Monday, June 23, the EU foreign ministers will gather. This is their regular monthly Foreign Affairs Council meeting, and they will discuss the ongoing developments in Georgia. Member states are free to raise any topics they wish. I don’t know exactly what will be discussed, but based on preparatory talks held at a lower level – at the level of ambassadors – I can tell you that member states are likely to discuss three issues,” said Pawel Herczyński.
According to him, the foreign ministers are expected to address disinformation against the EU, the potential imposition of sanctions, and the issue of the visa-free regime.
"The first issue is the massive disinformation and demonization of the European Union being carried out by the country’s top leadership. The second issue is the possibility of imposing sanctions due to human rights violations. And the third issue is the visa-free regime, which Georgian citizens currently enjoy, in the context of a serious deterioration in the human rights situation.
We’ll have to wait for Monday, and you can pose these questions to the High Representative/Vice-President in Luxembourg,” the ambassador noted.
