“Today, we witnessed not only great knowledge and professionalism, but also an incredibly delicate, heartfelt, and loving attitude toward the work — specifically, toward the Gelati Monastery and its rehabilitation process,” – said Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri), Patriarchal Locum Tenens and Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, following the international conference dedicated to the two-year work of the temporary committee for Gelati’s rehabilitation.

According to him, much has been accomplished over the past two years in the rehabilitation of Gelati, which became evident throughout the conference.

“We heard very impressive speeches. One could say that we saw not only great knowledge and professionalism from both our foreign guests and advisors, as well as from our Georgian scientists (this is undoubtedly true – we know they are renowned and distinguished experts), but what especially gladdens us is the incredibly careful, heartfelt, and loving attitude they showed toward the work – in particular, toward the Gelati Monastery and the process of its restoration.

Dear scientists and speakers, today you showed us an example of what it means to be a great scholar, a true professional — combining deep knowledge with immense love for the cause. This is a powerful example for us all, especially for the younger generation.

A strong example of how to emerge from a crisis is already becoming visible. And it was also mentioned more than once today — the metaphor of the patient and the healer, referring to the Gelati monument. In general, the metaphor of a damaged monument as a patient.

At the beginning of my speech today, I said that we would surely come to realize how much work and effort had been put in and how much has been accomplished over these two years. I believe we have all come to fully realize that, and today has revealed that our most cherished, beloved, and precious patient (of course, every patient is dear to a doctor, but sometimes there is a patient — a family member or a child — for whom your heart aches even more. I saw that kind of attitude in each of us) — today we can say this patient is in the hands of trustworthy doctors.

If we continue this process with the same wisdom, diligence, and love, God will be pleased and will surely help us. I am certain that the Holy Mother will support us, King David the Builder will support us, and we will live to see the wonderful and successful completion of this work — the strengthening of our friendship, and many, many more blessings for Georgia and for this remarkable and great Georgian historical heritage,” said Metropolitan Shio.
