One of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Zurab Girchi Japaridze, will not attend the pronouncement of a judgement at the Tbilisi City Court tomorrow.

As stated in the party, it is Zurab Japaridze's position that neither his teammates nor supporters should attend the court session.

“The decision in Zurab Japaridze's case will be announced tomorrow, June 23, at 10:30.

Zurab "Girchi" Japaridze will not attend the pronouncement of the judgement. Accordingly, neither his teammates nor supporters intend to participate in the "circus" called a court. Zurab "Girchi" Japaridze's verdict will be announced in an empty hall by Jvebe Nachkebia," reads the Girchi for More Freedom statement.

On June 23, the Tbilisi City Court will pronounce judgements in the cases of three opposition politicians, Zurab Girchi Japaridze, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze, for refusing to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament. As is known, like Zurab Japaridze, no other opposition politician will attend the pronouncement of judgement against them.

For information, a total of nine opposition politicians were summoned to give explanations to the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament of Georgia, eight of whom refused to appear in the legislative body, the only exception being former Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia, therefore, he has not been charged in this case.

As for the other politicians, they were charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to “failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This is punishable by a fine, or imprisonment for up to one year, or deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in activity for up to three years. Zurab Girchi Japaridze was granted a 20,000-GEL bail as a preventive measure, which he did not pay within the deadline established by law, for which he was arrested in the session hall on June 22.
