Mamuka Khazaradze, leader of "Lelo for Strong Georgia," was found guilty by the court for failing to comply with the demands of a parliamentary temporary investigative commission.
By the decision of Judge Zviad Sharadze, he was sentenced to 8 months in prison and banned from holding public office for 2 years.
The accused did not attend the announcement of the verdict and did not exercise his right to make a final statement.
For context, Mamuka Khazaradze was summoned to provide explanations before the Georgian Parliament’s temporary investigative commission but did not appear. In connection with this, he was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to "failure to comply with the demands of a temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament." This offense is punishable by a fine, imprisonment for up to one year, and/or a ban from holding public office or engaging in certain activities for up to three years.
Mamuka Khazaradze had a bail of 50,000 GEL imposed as a preventive measure, which he paid within the legally stipulated timeframe.
