I would like to address our international partners and friends: with our current steps, we are showing that we are ready to fight to the end, but we need your support, we need concrete, effective steps, which I am sure will come very soon, - Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Strategy Builder, stated at the briefing after the court found him guilty of failing to comply with the request of the temporary parliamentary investigative commission and sentenced him to imprisonment.
As Vashadze noted, Georgia and the Georgian people deserve to become worthy among the worthy.
“I would like to address our international partners and friends. Friends, you see what is happening in Georgia. Georgia and the Georgian people deserve to become worthy among the worthy. To be by your side, to be a member of the European Union, to be part of a civilized society. With our current steps, we show that we are ready to fight to the end, but we need your support, we need concrete, effective steps, which I am sure will happen very soon. This cowardly, cruel regime will definitely be removed from power in the country. Thank you to everyone for your support. I am one of the hundreds of thousands of Georgians who are fighting for freedom, for the future of Georgia. The protest must continue, thank you to those who are on Rustaveli Avenue, I call on others to join us. Sometimes it will be large-scale, sometimes small, but no one will break us. The truth is with us, the homeland is calling us. The regime is doomed to failure, we must all bring this failure through our struggle.
Imprisonment is temporary, homeland, humanity, dignity, family are what unites us everyone. For years, I have been psychologically and fully ready for this. We know very well what kind of fight we are in, we are fighting an authoritarian regime,” Vashadze noted.
The court found Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Strategy Builder party, guilty of failing to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament. By the decision of Judge Nino Galustashvili, he was sentenced to 7 months in prison. In addition, he was banned from holding office for 2 years.
Giorgi Vashadze did not attend the pronouncement of the judgement. Despite the lawyer’s request that the judge postpone the hearing until the stage of the defendant’s final statement, Galustashvili pronounced the judgement anyway.
