The Parliament has supported the candidacy of Giorgi Gvarakidze for the position of Prosecutor General of Georgia.
Gvarakidze was unanimously elected to the position of Prosecutor General with 83 votes. He will hold the position for a 6-year term.
Before the vote at the plenary session of the Parliament, Gvarakidze was heard in the Legal Isuues Committee. Gvarakidze presented his vision to the members of the committee.
“The proper and unhindered development of the prosecution system is essential for the development of the justice system and the implementation of criminal justice policy, for which it is necessary to improve the mechanism for responding to priority crimes and strengthen the internal institutional framework of the prosecution.
The legal reforms of recent years have had a positive impact on the development of a better criminal justice policy and the improvement of the quality of justice,” said Giorgi Gvarakidze.
According to him, the implementation of the policy should be based on a correct analysis of the challenges and needs of the state and society and on ensuring the support of mechanisms for the restoration of violated rights.
Giorgi Gvarakidze’s candidacy was presented to the parliament by the Prosecutorial Council.
