Politically motivated prosecutions and arrests of opposition politicians go against basic democratic values, European Commission Spokesperson Annita Hipper writes on her X page.

She calls the move “authoritarian tactics.”

“Georgia: The politically motivated persecution and arrests of opposition leaders go against basic democratic values.

These are authoritarian tactics, opposite of what is expected from an EU candidate country. Georgian Dream must stop weaponising the justice system,” Hipper wrote.
