Poet Zviad Ratiani has been placed in pre-trial detention as a preventive measure in connection with an assault on a police officer.

The decision was made by Judge Arsen Kalatozishvili, who upheld the prosecutor's motion.

For context, poet Zviad Ratiani was arrested on June 23 on charges of assaulting a police officer.

He was charged under Article 353¹, Part 1 of the Georgian Criminal Code (assault on a police officer in connection with their official duties), which carries a penalty of 4 to 7 years of imprisonment.
