Givi Targamadze has been sentenced to 7 months in prison and banned from holding public office for a period of 2 years

Opposition politician Givi Targamadze has been found guilty by the court of failing to comply with the request of the Parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission.

By the decision of Judge Nino Galustashvili, he has been sentenced to 7 months of imprisonment and banned from holding public office for a period of 2 years.

Givi Targamadze did not attend the hearing and did not exercise his right to make a final statement.

Targamadze was summoned to appear before the Temporary Investigative Commission in Parliament on April 3 to provide an explanation, but he failed to appear.

Subsequently, he was charged, and the court imposed a preventive measure in the form of 10,000 GEL bail, which he paid within the legally established timeframe.

For reference, Givi Targamadze was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to “failure to comply with the request of the Parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission.” This offense is punishable by a fine, imprisonment for up to one year, and/or deprivation of the right to hold office or engage in professional activity for up to three years.
