Giorgi Gakharia to Investigative Commission: Once again, I am ready to participate in the Investigative Commission session on July 2

A person authorized by the leader of Gakharia for Georgia, Giorgi Gakharia, has addressed a letter to the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament, stating that Gakharia is ready to participate remotely in the July 2 session.

The letter states that the party “at the June 23 session, failed to hear any legal or logical arguments, specifically what would prevent the commission from conducting a remote interrogation, if it is actually interested in hearing Giorgi Gakharia’s explanations verbally regarding Chorchana or other issues.”

The letter states that refusing to allow Giorgi Gakharia to be questioned remotely is a discriminatory approach, which is a clear and gross violation of the Constitution of Georgia, the principles and norms of international law, procedural legislation, including the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Georgia.

“Ms. Tea, as Giorgi Gakharia’s representative and confidant in the matter of relations with the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia, after communicating with Giorgi Gakharia, I once again confirm on behalf of Giorgi Gakharia his readiness to provide explanations to your Commission at the time you requested - July 2, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. As you are well aware, Giorgi Gakharia is not in Georgia, he is abroad, attending meetings scheduled several weeks ago. Considering his busy, already planned schedule and the limited time of the Commission, we once again express our readiness and offer remote participation at the time requested by your Commission - July 2, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., which is possible under Article 6, Paragraph 9 of your Commission's Regulations.

We have already received this offer from your Commission once, during the first summons to the Commission of Giorgi Gakharia.

We would also like to note that at the meeting of June 23, 2025, the discussion of the issue of offering Giorgi Gakharia to be interviewed remotely was followed by assessments that fundamentally contradict the requirements provided for by the Constitution of Georgia and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, as well as the Regulations of your Commission. None of the above-mentioned legal acts differentiates in any way between the statuses of the persons to be questioned by your investigative commission; there are no persons with the status of a victim, witness, or accused; accordingly, there are no different procedural features of depriving the persons to be questioned of explanations from a legal perspective.

At the June 23 session, we did not hear any legal or logical arguments as to what specifically would prevent your commission from conducting a remote interrogation if it is actually interested in verbally hearing Giorgi Gakharia's explanations regarding Chorchana or other issues”, reads the letter.
