The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia states that the book of condolences at the Embassy of Iran, in which an entry was made regarding the deaths of Iranian citizens, was opened at the initiative of the Iranian Embassy.
This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the visit of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to the Embassy of Iran.
As the Ministry explains, on June 26, the Iranian Embassy officially addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a diplomatic note regarding the opening of a book of condolences.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia issued an official statement on June 13, 2025, in response to the escalation in the Middle East: 'We are deeply concerned by the growing tensions in the Middle East, which pose a threat to regional security. We particularly emphasize the importance of diplomatic efforts to ensure de-escalation and stability.'
On June 26, 2025, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran officially addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a note regarding the opening of a book of condolences, and an appropriate entry was made in the book of condolences opened in Tbilisi concerning the deaths of Iranian citizens," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
For reference, yesterday, the Israeli Embassy in Georgia expressed concern over the participation of Georgia’s Deputy Foreign Minister in a solidarity event at the Iranian Embassy, calling it "morally inappropriate."
Earlier, the Embassy of Iran released a statement noting that Georgia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, had written in the condolence book opened at the Embassy, expressing sympathy for those killed in the Israeli attack and showing solidarity with Iran. According to the Iranian Embassy, an event related to this was also held at the embassy.
