Irakli Okruashvili sentenced to 8 months in prison and banned from holding office for 2 years

Opposition politician Irakli Okruashvili has been found guilty by the court of refusing to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament.

By the decision of Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili, he was sentenced to 8 months in prison and banned from holding office for 2 years.

Irakli Okriashvili did not attend the hearing, nor did he enjoy the right to make a final statement.

For information, Irakli Okriashvili was summoned to give an explanation to the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament on March 26, where he refused to appear.

Irakli Okriashvili was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to “failure to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This action is punishable by a fine, or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, or deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in an activity for a term of up to three years.
