Sunni Muslims are observing Ashura

Today, on the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the lunar calendar, Sunni Muslims are observing Ashura.

This information was released by the State Agency for Religious Issues.

According to the agency, Sunni Muslims associate Ashura with several significant events, particularly the moment when the Prophet Nuh (Noah) set foot on land after the great flood.

“It is believed that doing good deeds on this day is especially desirable, and fasting is considered a great virtue,” the statement reads.
