“Freedom Square”: We do not agree with Strong Georgia’s decision. It is their choice, yes, but it poses a political risk for everyone else. That said, we do not intend to turn the coming months into a battlefield of internal opposition conflict

“We do not agree with Strong Georgia’s decision to participate in the ‘elections.’ It is their choice, yes, but it presents a political risk for everyone else,” – this is how the party Freedom Square responded to Lelo – Strong Georgia’s decision to take part in the local self-government elections.

As stated in their released statement, Freedom Square will remain focused on pursuing active boycott.

“We do not agree with Strong Georgia’s decision to participate in the ‘elections.’ It is their choice, but it is a political risk for all the rest.

Nevertheless, we do not intend to spend the coming months turning the opposition space into a battleground — our main target remains the Russian party, Georgian Dream.

Freedom Square will stay focused on organizing an active boycott and building an alternative, democratic, and inclusive political process, and we will direct our resources toward that,” – the statement reads.

For context, Lelo – Strong Georgia has announced it will participate in the local elections on October 4. This was stated by Irakli Kupradze during a briefing held at the coalition’s office.
