Dea Metreveli, another member of "Lelo – Strong Georgia", has resigned from the party’s Political Council and her party positions

Dea Metreveli, a member of Lelo – Strong Georgia, is resigning from the party’s Political Council and her position as Executive Secretary.

Metreveli wrote about this on Facebook.

She does not specify whether she will remain an ordinary party member but says she will stay “in the common struggle that unites us all.”

"For me, as a founder of the party Lelo, a member of its Political Council, and Executive Secretary, it has been and remains extremely important to be part of a large national movement in every decision the party makes.

Over the years, our team has been faithful to this path and these values because the only effective way to fight the regime is unity.

It is unfortunate that regarding the so-called local elections, society and opposition political parties were unable to unite around a common plan.

Therefore, on the path toward our common goal — which is new, fair parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners — I do not consider it appropriate for part of the opposition parties to participate in the elections while another part remains in boycott.

I believe that the decision announced today by Strong Georgia, given the current situation, is not a consistent path for our common struggle, especially against the backdrop of the extremely principled and dignified stand by Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, who remain devoted to the common struggle even at the cost of imprisonment.

Accordingly, I have decided to leave the party’s Political Council and my position as Executive Secretary.

At the same time, I remain in the common struggle that unites us all — the liberation of Georgia and its European future. Freedom to all political prisoners! The fight continues until victory!” — writes Dea Metreveli.
