In Sagarejo, investigative actions are still ongoing at the home of Aleko Akhvlediani, where, according to existing information, Tornike Rizhvadze attempted suicide. As Deputy Head of the Sagarejo Police Department, Jaba Bitarishvili, told journalists near Akhvlediani’s residence, forensic experts and criminalists are currently working inside the house.

The Deputy Head of the Police Department did not answer media questions regarding the exact time of the shooting, whether the shot was fired using Akhvlediani’s weapon, or whether any evidence has been seized. The law enforcement official stated that he could not provide any additional details.

"The investigation has been launched under Articles 115 and 238 of the Criminal Code. One individual has been detained, and investigative actions are ongoing. I can't say more than that. Yes, forensic experts are working. Investigative procedures are underway. I cannot answer further questions," said Jaba Bitarishvili.

For context, earlier this morning, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze, had been admitted to GeoHospitals in Sagarejo with a gunshot wound to the chest. According to the ministry, Rizhvadze received emergency medical care. Doctors stated that he had sustained lung damage and that his condition remains critically stable.

Later, Rizhvadze was transferred from Sagarejo to the First University Clinic in Tbilisi.

According to available information, in connection with Tornike Rizhvadze’s case, Aleksi Akhvlediani has been detained as a suspect for the negligent storage of a firearm.
