The Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against businessman Giorgi Ramishvili

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has filed charges against businessman Giorgi Ramishvili, the founder of "Silk Road Group" and "Silknet," in Tbilisi for the illegal carrying of a firearm. This information was released by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.

According to their statement, the accused has been charged under Part 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal carrying of a firearm), which carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from 4 to 7 years.

"An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on July 6, at Tbilisi International Airport’s departure terminal, during a screening with a redgen scanner, a 'WALTHER PPK/S' model 9 mm caliber firearm, registered in the accused’s name for storage, was found in his hand luggage, along with a magazine and 7 rounds of 9 mm caliber ammunition, which he was carrying illegally.

Law enforcement officers detained the accused on the same day. The accused has been charged under Part 4 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal carrying of a firearm), which carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from 4 to 7 years. The Prosecutor’s Office will request the court to impose detention as a preventive measure for the accused within the timeframe established by law," the statement reads.

For reference, businessman Giorgi Ramishvili, the founder of "Silk Road Group" and "Silknet," was detained at the airport yesterday.
