Iago Kachkachishvili: The government has its lowest rating in Tbilisi, where voter support for them is approximately 25%, which gave the opposition a chance to win Tbilisi

Opposition parties in Georgia are unable to cooperate with each other. Despite being clearly visible on the battlefield, the opposition fails to reach an agreement, which was most evident in the context of local self-government elections, said sociologist Iago Kachkachishvili on Palitranius’s program “Day’s Newsroom.”

According to him, the division and confrontation among opposition parties is exactly what benefits “Georgian Dream.”

“Their division is the best project that could suit ‘Georgian Dream.’ No single opposition force can mobilize on a scale large enough to achieve significant success. The government has its lowest rating in Tbilisi, where voter support for them is approximately 25%, which gave the opposition a chance to win Tbilisi,” he stated.

Kachkachishvili discussed the participation of Giorgi Gakharia’s party and “Lelo - Strong Georgia” in the elections, noting that they face an extremely difficult task.

“The two parties participating in the local self-government elections have an extremely challenging task, the realization of which is questionable. It is expected that a large portion of opposition-minded voters will not boycott the elections. They also need to convince voters of other opposition parties to participate in the elections. This further complicates their task. These parties have taken the risk upon themselves, and time will show to what extent they can handle this risk,” he said.

Kachkachishvili also noted that, at present, the real rating of “Georgian Dream” is 35%, which is a worse result compared to October.

“The fact that ‘Georgian Dream’s’ rating is currently 35% is a worse result compared to what they achieved in the October elections. However, the official data is not objective and has been falsified. According to reliable exit polls, their rating was approximately 42%, and we see that their rating has deteriorated,” he stated.
