"Based on the information available so far, and we have no right whatsoever to cast any doubt on the veracity of this information, a letter was found at the location where Tornike Rizhvadze was discovered unconscious. To date, the connection between this letter and Tornike Rizhvadze has been confirmed," said Davit Matikashvili, a deputy from "Georgian Dream," in a statement to journalists.
When asked who was accusing Rizhvadze of corruption and protecting drug traffickers, as mentioned in the letter, Matikashvili stated, "No matter what insinuations certain television channels try to push or voice in the form of questions, this is ultimately a matter for the investigation, and the investigation will provide answers to these questions."
"A very grave incident has occurred, and first and foremost, we wish this person a speedy recovery. Beyond what is known to the public, the letter he left and what is written in it, I don’t have any more specific information, and believe me, this is not a topic for public discussion.
A very unfortunate incident has occurred, which we all have felt. An investigation is ongoing, and everything will be confirmed by the investigation.
An expertise is being conducted regarding the authenticity of the letter," Davit Matikashvili stated.
The incident took place on July 6 in Sagarejo. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Tornike Rizhvadze, the former head of the Adjara government, secretly took a firearm belonging to Alexi Akhvelediani, brought it to a bedroom designated for guests, and, while alone, shot himself in the chest with the intent of suicide.
