Nugzar Tsiklauri, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change,” stated on PalitraNews’ program “Day’s Newsroom” that:
“The main pre-election slogan of ‘Georgian Dream’ during the parliamentary elections was ‘Towards Europe with Peace and Dignity,’ but now we have neither Europe, nor peace, nor dignity — because they are capable of betraying their own comrade like this.”
He was commenting on the case of the former Chairman of the Adjara Government, Tornike Rijvadze.
According to Tsiklauri, this incident shows that not only ordinary citizens, but even high-ranking officials are unsafe in the country.
“No formal body accused Rijvadze of anything, but his letter clearly shows that in this country, things are not governed by law — instead, there are informal brigades of terror who can push a person to the point of putting a bullet in themselves,” Tsiklauri said.
Regarding the upcoming debates on Georgia in the European Parliament, he noted:
“Everyone who commits unlawful acts must feel that they are unacceptable to the civilized world. It’s important that sanctions do not affect all of us, and that visa liberalization is not revoked. The imposition of sanctions on high-ranking officials protects the general public from being affected. It would be welcome if Western foundations find ways to bypass the draconian laws and support Georgian media, NGOs, and researchers.”
He concluded:
“What is happening in the country now is not a political struggle. On one side is ‘Georgian Dream,’ which is a machine of terror, and on the other side is the Georgian people, who want freedom.”
