The Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, Aleksi Akhvlediani, has been dismissed from office

The Head of the Maritime Transport Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Aleksi Akhvlediani, has been dismissed from office — the corresponding order was signed today, July 9. The information was released by the Ministry of Economy.

Aleksi Akhvlediani had been serving as Director of the Maritime Transport Agency since May 2023.

As a reminder, Aleksi Akhvlediani was arrested on charges of negligent storage of a firearm. The case concerns an incident that occurred on July 7 in Sagarejo, where, according to the Prosecutor's Office, the former head of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rijvadze, attempted suicide at Akhvlediani's home using a firearm owned by Akhvlediani.

The Tbilisi City Court set bail for Aleksi Akhvlediani at 30,000 GEL and released him from the courtroom.
