The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has charged 34 individuals with the illegal acquisition, storage, and sale of narcotic substances in large and especially large quantities. This information was released by the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office.
According to their statement, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the detained individuals illegally acquired and stored various types and quantities of narcotic substances, including large and especially large amounts, which they subsequently sold.
“As a result of the measures taken, the following narcotic substances were seized: ‘heroin,’ ‘methadone,’ ‘alpha-PVP,’ ‘tramadol,’ ‘clephedrone,’ ‘mephedrone,’ ‘morphine,’ ‘buprenorphine,’ ‘methamphetamine,’ ‘ecstasy’ pills, ‘dried marijuana,’ the narcotic-containing plant ‘cannabis,’ and the psychotropic substance ‘ketamine.’ During the search of the residences of two of the accused, unregistered firearms and ammunition were also seized.
The accused have been charged under Article 260, Part 4; Part 5, Subparagraph ‘a’ (illegal sale of narcotic substances in large quantities); Subparagraph ‘b’ (illegal sale of narcotic substances by a group with prior agreement); Subparagraph ‘e’ (illegal sale of narcotic substances by a previously convicted person for drug-related crimes); Part 6, Subparagraph ‘a’ (illegal sale of narcotic substances in especially large quantities by a previously convicted person); Article 265, Part 2, Subparagraph ‘e’ and Part 3, Subparagraph ‘a’ (illegal sowing, growing, or cultivating a narcotic-containing plant in especially large quantities by a previously convicted person); Article 260, Parts 1, 2, Subparagraphs ‘a’ and ‘d,’ and Part 3, Subparagraph ‘a’ (illegal acquisition and storage of narcotic substances repeatedly, in large and especially large quantities); Article 260, Part 1 (illegal sale of the narcotic substance ‘marijuana’); Article 261, Part 1 (illegal acquisition and storage of psychotropic substances); and Article 260, Part 1 (illegal sale of psychotropic substances), as well as Article 236, Parts 1 and 3 (illegal acquisition and storage of firearms and ammunition). These offenses carry a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office has already requested the court to impose detention as a preventive measure for the accused. Detention has already been ordered for some of the accused, while the court will consider preventive measures for the others within the timeframe established by law.
