“The Chorchana issue didn’t quite work out, so Plan B has been activated,” said Kakha Kemoklidze, a member of the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, commenting on the start of investigative actions near the Parliament related to the so-called Gavrilov’s Night events.

“The sneaky cat keeps digging and digging, and I think it will unearth something that will surprise even itself in the end,” Kakha Kemoklidze wrote on Facebook.

At this moment, Rustaveli Avenue is closed. Investigative actions related to the events of June 20-21, 2019, are being conducted in front of the Parliament building.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these investigative actions are being carried out based on a decision by the European Court of Human Rights, which found a violation of Article 3 of the Convention in its procedural aspect regarding the events of June 20-21, 2019.

“The European Court of Human Rights issued a decision regarding a criminal case under the jurisdiction of the Investigative Department of the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office concerning the events of June 20-21, 2019, in Tbilisi, involving the use of excessive force and weapons by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in maintaining and restoring public order. The court found a violation of Article 3 of the Convention in its procedural aspect and ordered the state to conduct certain investigative actions, including those involving victims, to ensure proper planning of the measures by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to establish instances of excessive use of force.

Taking into account the Strasbourg Court’s decision and recommendations, investigative actions involving victims are currently being conducted on Rustaveli Avenue to ensure an effective investigation. These actions will enable the investigation to fully reconstruct the crime scene and identify individuals potentially responsible for the crime,” the statement from the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office reads.
