MIA: Six citizens of Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, and Egypt have been detained – they were staying in the country without legal grounds and did not comply with the deadlines set by the deportation decision

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, six citizens from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, and Egypt have been detained as a result of joint complex operations carried out by the Migration Department and the Border Police of the Ministry.

“It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country without legal grounds, in violation of the Georgian law ‘On the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.’ They had been abusing the timeframes granted by the asylum procedure and had remained in the country for years without legal basis.

The detainees did not comply with the deadlines set by the deportation decisions, which required them to leave the country voluntarily. As a result, the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made the decision to detain them.

To enforce this decision, the detained individuals are currently being held in the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center, pending their return to their countries of origin,” the statement reads.
