I did not know Beselia or Dgebuadze. When I was slapping, I could not tell who this person was… Dgebuadze was swearing at me, I was asking myself what was happening, I could not understand… He came close, I looked up, he stopped and spat in my face… To this day I cannot forgive myself for that calmness, how I did not scream, from insults and weakness, - Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of the Batumelebi and Netgazeti, stated in the Batumi City Court.
She is testifying at today’s hearing regarding the demonstration held at the Adjara Police Department on January 11 of this year.
According to Mzia Amaglobeli’s testimony, if Irakli Dgebuadze had not been stopped by law enforcement officers, he would have beaten her.
"I went to Eter Turadze, I wanted her not to be alone. I tried too and told my employees to keep their distance from the police. When I was surrounded by police, they passed me by. When I asked about the detainees, the police responded aggressively, telling us that they would arrest whoever they wanted, I was on the verge of anger and helplessness. When I saw the video footage of the slapping in the prison, that’s where I realized. Since this fact happened, it was inevitable, I could not have done it any other way. This was not planned behavior, it was an impulsive reaction....
I don't know what made the so-called victim Dgebuadze write in his statement that we knew each other, I didn't know Beselia or Dgebuadze. During the slapping, I couldn't tell who this person was. I could hear the sound of swearing - I get angry sometimes, this anger is choking me.
Dgebuadze asked me how I hit him, he stood over me, I tried not to look into the interrogation room, he cursed endlessly. I can send the words to the judge in writing, how Dgebuadze was swearing at me, it is very difficult for me to recall all this. This was the first time I found myself in such a situation and I was shocked, I asked who this person was. It was Irakli Dgebuadze, they told me, I need to know his name, surname. I asked what position he held, they told me he was the head of the Batumi police.
Irakli Dgebuadze was leaning towards me physically, I had the feeling that he was going to hit me. If there had not been other policemen, he would have beaten me. Dgebuadze was yelling at me, I was asking myself what was happening, I couldn't understand... He came so close, I looked up, he stopped and spat in my face... To this day I can't forgive myself for not shouting, for being insulted and helpless," said Amaglobeli.
