Employees of the Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as a result of prompt operative-search and investigative actions, arrested two citizens of the Republic of Turkey in connection with the murder that occurred in Batumi: A.E., born in 2003, and M.J., born in 1998.

The information was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"A.E. has been charged with premeditated murder and the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of a firearm. M.J. has been detained for failing to report an especially serious crime and for illegally crossing the border.

The crimes are punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, A.E. inflicted fatal gunshot wounds on H.T., a citizen of the Republic of Turkey born in 1976, at a restaurant in Batumi. The motive appears to be a possible conflict that began between criminal groups in Turkey. After committing the crime, A.E. fled the scene.

The investigation also established that M.J., who was accompanying A.E., witnessed the crime but failed to inform law enforcement.

As a result of prompt search and investigative operations, both individuals were detained as suspects.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 108 (premeditated murder), 236 (illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition), 376 (failure to report an especially serious crime), and 344 (illegal crossing of the state border) of the Criminal Code of Georgia," the statement said.
