Employees of the Marneuli District Division of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, arrested three citizens of the Republic of Turkey as a result of complex operative and investigative actions.
They are charged with illegally crossing the state border of Georgia, unlawful acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition, as well as assisting in the illegal possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
The information was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the ministry, one of the three detainees is wanted under a red notice by Turkish Interpol for the premeditated murder of two individuals.
“The detainees are: I.J., born in 1999; Sh.I., born in 1980; and G.I., born in 2000, who is wanted by Turkish Interpol under a red notice for the premeditated murder of two persons.
The investigation determined that I.J. and G.I. illegally crossed the Georgian state border, bypassing border control. All three suspects were stopped by law enforcement officers while traveling in a vehicle in the Tetritskaro municipality. Police seized a firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition as evidence.
The crimes are punishable by up to 11 years of imprisonment.
The investigation is underway under Articles 344, 25-236, and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the statement said.
